Contribute to torvalds/linux development by creating an account on github. Eventually I'd like to try running ALDLdroid on my Android phone to see if it's a viable alternative to mpguino, but first I want to get Rhinopower and Tunerpro working.Usb to rs232 serial db9 female cable is usb to rs232 converter. If anyone has experience using either, I would appreciate the information. I need to do more research on RhinoPower and then TunerPro. You can see in the pic that it says "Connected to SDL" and the "Bad Data Count" kept increasing as long as I had it plugged in. I didn't get RhinoPower to display anything but I'm pretty sure it's communicating with the module. You can see in this pic it's set at 15625. I got everything hooked up this morning, plugged the USB cable into my laptop and launched RhinoPower. I've got to figure out a more permanent way of mounting the module. The module mounted under the steering column with body molding tape and the usb cable coming out the right.

If I can get the software working, I will eventually connect the wires from the module into the wires at the back of the ALDL connector. I can scan and attach it later if there's interest.įor the time being, I attached the wires from the module to the ALDL by cutting down a couple of male disconnects that fit tightly into the ALDL slots. If you need a diagram of the connector it's available in the '94 FSM posted here. The connection just to the right of my thumb is 12v power. Upper right is ground, below that is data. The black wire on the right is the ground the purple behind it is the data wire.

Here's the ALDL connector unscrewed from under the steering column and pulled down so that I can get at the connections. Here's the module wired up and on my bench.

I won't go into the details of wiring it up, since that's available at the DieselPlace forum. Other versions are available Newegg has one for $6 for example. I bought the FT232RL USB To Serial Adapter Module on Ebay, and bought the same one listed in the forum. That site is for the 6.5 Chevy diesel, but I thought I would try it in my '93 Geo. Then I came across this site to create your own ALDL to USB converter. I've wanted to play around with these programs but couldn't justify the cost of the ALDL cable, often near $50.
